Jobs Board in ECS G

Mme. Gill's ECS students were busy completing jobs off their job's board.  Once students completed a job, they then moved on to another: sorting, patterning, writing, counting, cutting, and creating.

                                                 

Rock & Minerals in Grade 3

Our grade 3 classes rotated through our three teachers while Mlle. Thompson, our Rocks & Minerals specialist, taught a special lesson on fossils.  Students had a great hands-on time examining sample rocks, classifying and identifying rocks, and describing groups of rocks based upon certain properties.

Power of 10 in ECS - D

Mrs. Djordjevic's kindergarten students spent some time this morning showing me how good they are at math using the power of 10 concept.  The students began with two cubes in their egg cartons, added one and knew the answer was three.  I then asked Mrs. Djordjevic to give them the hardest question in the universe; one boy said, "That's harder than a rotten ball!"  Mrs. Djordjevic asked them to add five more and then raise their hand when they knew what the sum was.  Rocketship hands went up all over:)

3T Netbook: Creating, Evaluating, Analyzing

Today the children in Mrs. Stewart's grade 3 class invited me in to view their Animal/Human Hearing & CommunicationVenn Diagrams completed by researching their favourite animals using the class netbooks.  Students were engaged in their learning, they were collaborating with their partners, and they were interacting positively with one another.

Teachers Back At School: They Are Learning Too

"Who dares to teach must never cease to learn."  The teachers of ÉCPS spent a few hours during their busy work days doing some learning of their own.  The following photos show the staff embracing its values of Collaboration and On-Going Learning.  Great Things are Happening at ÉCPS!

Early Literacy

Yesterday, Division 1 French immersion teachers {Mme Harmatiuk, Mme Djordjevic, Mme Gill, Mme Fisher, M. Pask, Mlle Lange, Mlle Aucoin, Mme Yakimoski} got together to share teaching practices and literacy ideas. This year’s Early literacy Intervention teacher, Mlle El-Khatib, and our in-house French literacy specialist, Mme. Girouard, presented intervention strategies and resources available at our school. It was a great morning, and the teachers learned a lot from each other. COUGAR values at their best!!

Student Teachers

It was wonderful to have our school mentor four student teachers from the University of Alberta for the past nine weeks. A mentor is a wise, trusted advisor who shares her craft knowledge with others having a prejudice interest in the others' well-being; to this end, ÉCPS was golden.  Mrs. Djordjevic, Mrs. Weatherby, Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. May, and Ms. Twarog were the mentor teachers, and they did an excellent job; thank you.  I'd also like to thank all staff for pitching in to make the student teachers' experience here extremely rewarding for them; our staff is second to none.  We wish Lori-Ann, Janelle, Ashley, and Kim all the best in their teaching careers.
